Places to visit and things to do

Being less than 10 minutes’ drive from the market town of Dolgellau in Gwynedd, this area is all about getting out and about.  The sleepy, picturesque town of Dolgellau has all you need during your stay.

Spend the morning wandering the narrow streets and visit the various bakeries and grocery shops to stock up on local produce to enjoy during your stay. Enjoy lunch and cake in one of the gorgeous little cafes before spending the evening enjoying a meal and drinks in one of several award winning restaurants and bars.

Outdoor Adventurers

In the southern reaches of Snowdonia National Park, Llwyn yr Helm is a haven for ramblers, bikers and hikers: the Mawddach Trail, Torrent Walk and Precipice Walk all start in Dolgellau.  Cadair Idris mountain’s Minfford Path is less than 15 minutes from the site.

With the hikers sorted, what about the bikers? Coed y Brenin Biking and Visitor Centre is twenty minutes away, and the fab Antur Stiniog downhill biking trails are within a thirty minute drive.

For the adrenaline seekers we have the Zip World Caverns and Forest only forty minutes’ drive away and the National White Water Rafting  Centre within a 20 minute drive.

Taking It Easy

If you’re not much of an outdoor adventurer, there’s plenty else nearby.  Why not try plane spotting at the famous Mach Loop or take the Snowdon Mountain Railway to the summit of Snowdon.

Maybe enjoy a ride on the narrow gauge railway at Talyllyn or Bala Lake Railway or wander around the scenic Italianate village of Portmeirion.  If the coast is your desire, you could make a beeline to the beautiful sandy beaches and harbours at Fairbourne or Barmouth.

Family Activities

To keep the little ones entertained, why not check out some of the many family activities Snowdonia has to offer?  Llanfair Farm Park and Play Barn has indoor and outdoor activities and is only half an hour’s drive away.

For adventurous family fun, enjoy a day out at Green Wood Forest Park for the family friendly Green Dragon rollercoaster and Solar Splash slides.

Only a short drive from the site you can ‘go green’ and visit the Centre for Alternative Technology or paint a pot and learn about the legend of King Arthur at Corris Craft Centre.
